General<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Guild has established a Program which will be known as <strong>the Guild of One-Name Blog Program<\/strong> or, for short, <strong>the Guild Blog Program (GBP)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Guild of One-Name Studies<\/strong> (referred to below as <em>the Guild<\/em>) will provide space on a web server under its management for <strong>you, the Member<\/strong>, (referred to as <em>You<\/em>) to create and develop a WordPress blog website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>You<\/em> agree to create in, or transfer to, this web space a WordPress blog website that will be either (a) a Member&#8217;s personal family history website and blog; (b) a Registrant&#8217;s blog concerned only with the one-name study which is registered to you in the <em>Guild<\/em>\u2019s <em>Register of One-Name Studies, adding your own family history if it links to the registered name is acceptable<\/em>; or (c) a Post Holder&#8217;s blog to support your post holder duties as relates to the public; Regional Representatives will find these most convenient. This Blog will be referred to in this agreement as <em>your Blog<\/em>. All Members may request a Member blog; Registrants may request a blog for each of their studies; All Post Holders may request a blog to support their Post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Your Blog<\/em> will appear and operate as a separate WordPress blog website, and you will have password-protected access so that <em>you<\/em> can upload to and edit it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Your web address (URL)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Your Blog<\/em> will be publicly accessible for viewing via the web address <strong>http:\/\/<em>name<\/em>.one-name.blog<\/strong>, where <strong><em>name<\/em><\/strong> is the name for your blog, as assigned by the GBP Project Team, for which your web space is provided. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[Not During Pilot Program: <em>The Guild<\/em> will include this address in your Guild Profile, in lists and search facilities on its main website and in the <em>Register of One-Name Studies<\/em>.] <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you also own a domain name you may also redirect (point) it to that URL.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Ownership of blogs \u2013 <em>Active<\/em>, <em>Succession<\/em> and <em>Legacy<\/em> blogs; <em>Handover<\/em> and <em>Transfer<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><em>You<\/em> request and agree that, in the event that <em>you<\/em> should die or otherwise cease to be a Member of the Guild of One Name Studies (for a Member Blog) or for the registrant of the relevant surname (for a Study Blog, <em>the Guild<\/em> will continue to maintain <em>your Blog<\/em> as a publicly accessible blog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>You<\/em> agree that, in that event, ownership of the blog and its contents and any intellectual property rights (copyright) that <em>you<\/em> shall have had in the blog shall pass to the Guild. The transfer of ownership will be referred to as <em>Handover<\/em> and the blog will, after <em>Handover<\/em>, be known as a <em>Legacy<\/em> blog. You may revoke this term of the agreement prior to <em>Handover<\/em> by removing or deleting the content of the blog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prior to <em>Handover<\/em>, the website will be referred to as an <em>Active<\/em> blog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prior to <em>Handover<\/em>, you may transfer ownership of an <em>Active<\/em> blog to another Guild Member, provided that the Member signs a copy of this agreement with the Guild. If the blog is a Study blog, the Member receiving the blog must also agree to have the  registration of the relevant surname be transferred to that Member.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For a Post Holder Blog, the blog will be transferred when a new Member assumes the post. Post Holder Blogs never go into Legacy status unless the Post is abolished. At which time the blog may be abandoned at the discretion of the GBP Team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You agree that, at any time following <em>Handover<\/em>, the Guild may provide a <strong>copy<\/strong> of the <em>Legacy<\/em> blog to a new member who registers the relevant surname. That new member may develop a new <em>Active<\/em> blog (a <em>Succession<\/em> blog), based on that copy or not, as they wish, but the Guild will continue to also maintain <em>your blog<\/em> as a <em>Legacy<\/em> blog as it was at <em>Handover<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The Guild<\/em> will continue to host <em>Active<\/em> and <em>Legacy<\/em> blogs indefinitely as publicly accessible sites as far as it is able. <em>Legacy<\/em> blogs will not be developed further.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Types of website<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Your GBP Blog<\/em> will be only a free standing WordPress blog. No additional applications will be allowed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Support<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The Guild<\/em> will act as overall manager of the <em>Guild Blog Pro<\/em>gram through its<em> Guild Blog Program<\/em> Team of volunteers. It will endeavour to support <em>you<\/em> as much as possible in creating and maintaining <em>your blog<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During your active use of the Blog, you are expected to keep the WordPress software, including Plugins, Themes, etc. up to date. As much as possible, you should set WordPress, your plugins and themes and other software to update automatically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The Guild<\/em> will apply at least major updates, changes and releases to the <em>WordPress<\/em> software on your blog once it has become a <em>Legacy<\/em> blog. The Guild may remove any Plugins, Themes, or other software that is not pertinent to the content of the blog after it goes into Legacy status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Members must avoid using any Plugins or themes that require fees. Those will be removed in Legacy status as the Guild cannot be responsible for any such fees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The Guild<\/em> through its hosting company will operate a backup system for both <em>Active<\/em> and <em>Legacy<\/em> blogs to ensure retention of the data in case of server malfunction or natural disaster. <em>The Guild<\/em> cannot nevertheless be held responsible for any failure of such a backup system and <em>you<\/em> should also backup <em>your Blog<\/em> on a regular basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">6. Content and accessibility of websites<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><em>You<\/em> will be responsible for the content of<em> your blog<\/em>. You may only include material that is broadly relevant to the specified one-name study, your personal family history, or your post holder&#8217;s remit. Your Study Blog may include any of your personal family history and genealogy that connects to a bearer connected to your study name, no matter how distant. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Your blog<\/em> shall be generally available to search engines and to public view. Access to view the blog may not depend on payment of any kind or any requirement to be a registered user. Data relating to living people may, and generally should, be suppressed through software settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>You<\/em> agree that you will be fully responsible for dealing with any claim or prosecution arising from the inclusion of material that contravenes relevant laws, especially but not exclusively with respect to privacy, data protection, defamation, infringement of copyright or the protection of children. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>You<\/em> agree that you will not use your blog for commercial purposes or in connection with any business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You may invite the public to register for an account with your Blog as a subscriber, contributor, or editor. Only active Guild Members may be administrators of your blog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">8. Size of blog \u2013 Fair usage policy<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There is no formal limit to the size of <em>your blog<\/em> but if the size, amount of traffic generated, or CPU usage affects the operation of the service to the detriment of the Program or other members, you may be required to take steps to reduce such effects. (It is unlikely that this will happen, and, in any case, <em>the Guild<\/em> will not summarily close <em>your blog<\/em> in these circumstances.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>These Terms and Conditions apply to all participants in the Program. These Terms and Conditions may be superseded when the Program goes into full production. Those terms will apply to all Program Blogs.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Proceed to the <a href=\"https:\/\/one-name.org\/members-websites-project-application\/\">Applicatio<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.one-name.blog\/bloghome\/?page_id=53\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">n Form<\/a> to join the Program.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>1.
